Diagnosis & Treatment of Sleep Disorders

Do you have difficulty sleeping or consistently feel tired throughout the day? If so, you may have a sleep disorder. The inability to get a good night’s rest is nothing to take lightly, but, unfortunately, many people fail to realize that this is a medical issue that should be addressed by a professional.

Sleep disorders have many side effects, including:

  • High blood pressure
  • Increased risk of heart disease, heart attack, stroke
  • Lack of focus, resulting in greater risk of accidents
  • Depression
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Weight gain
  • Impaired judgment

The good news is, these conditions can be remedied or avoided entirely by overcoming your sleep disorder. At the Central Valley Medical Center Sleep Health Center, we have a dedicated team of sleep specialists who can diagnose the cause of your sleep deprivation and recommend a treatment plan.

The Overnight Sleep Study

The best way for our team to find out what’s causing your sleep disorder is to perform an overnight sleep study. In this exam, you spend the night in a room designed for your comfort. You will be connected to noninvasive devices that monitor your vital signs to help our team with our diagnosis.

If you are having difficulty sleeping already, you may be skeptical of your ability to sleep in a strange place while connected to machines. In truth, the devices you are connected to are so minimally invasive that many patients forget they are there, and even if you are unable to sleep during the study, we can still obtain valuable information from your attempt to sleep.

Possible Causes of Sleep Disorders

There are many things that could be causing your difficulty sleeping. Sometimes the cause is mental, resulting from depression and anxiety, whereas other patients may have a physical condition like sleep apnea. In any case, finding the cause of the condition is the first step towards treatment.

Our team knows that every patient is different. We will work closely with you to build a diagnostic and treatment plan that best addresses your needs. Being unable to get a full night’s sleep is stressful; we will be by your side to help you take back the night and get the most out of your day.
